The Programme
The Programme provides powerful tools for collection, management, manipulation, analysis, modelling and dissemination of spatially referenced information to support the implementation the SDGs and the Vision 2030. The broad aspects to be addressed include: spatial planning, land administration and management, sustainable environmental management, sustainable exploitation of natural resources and management, physical infrastructure development and management. This calls for the need to increased investment in advanced training and research in the geomatics and geospatial information science
The programme places emphasis on modern techniques of digital mapping, remote sensing, cartography, geoinformation and builds on adequate foundation on traditional geoinformation data acquisition and processing techniques. A well-trained GIS & RS professional will be well-grounded with knowledge in the following broad areas: basic sciences and social sciences, foundation courses, computing skills, core technical subjects, management and entrepreneurship skills. The programme is generally designed to follow these guidelines: First and second years of study cover basic sciences, social sciences and foundation courses, while the third and fourth years cover the core GIS & RS and other interrelated disciplines’ units
Goal of the Programme
The Bachelor of Science in Geospatial Information Science and Remote Sensing is designed to provide the country and region with high-level manpower in geoinformation technology, resource management and research in a broad range of policy and decision making. This program is aimed at developing multidisciplinary students who have up-to-date knowledge in their fields, and who also understand the linkage among geoinformatics, environmental sciences, industry and business.
